I love this place and try to get there a few times a year.
The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum is an excellent transportation museum. The autos on display are in some ways priceless and irreplaceable. There are a couple floors of vintage automobiles, mostly from the 1920's and 1930's, but with a smattering of classic cars from other eras too.
The museum building itself is an art-deco design with all the period floors, window treatments, lamps and other furnishings intact, most of which are from the original building.
As a photo buff, the only thing I would change are of the stanchions, ropes, and signs that obstruct the view. Other car museums with just as costly autos don’t have them and don’t seem to have a problem. Besides, the ropes are so close to the car that they wouldn’t stop someone from touching them anyway. They just spoil the picture.
It's very easy to reach from I-69 with plenty of lodging close by. The museum has good parking and one should plan on spending 1-2 hours in the museum.
The staff was inviting and seemed interested in really knowing how you liked you visit. The automobiles are so beautiful, it felt more like looking at artwork rather than just cars. They pack a lot of information between the interactive exhibits to informational cards for each car and the enclosed office spaces, original die, concept drawings, etc. into this location and the building itself is lovely. I would recommend spending a day taking in all there is to see here. Especially, if you have an appreciation for the automobile as art.
Well presented museum that showcases actual cars from not widely known car companies at the start of the automobile age. Also has wonderful exhibits celebrating the giants in design and other aspects in the development of the auto. Classic cars and custom cars of all stripes.....Wow!
I still give it a five star because these things don’t matter to most people.
This is such an important place of historical significance to my family that I hosted my wedding reception here. My guests were not only thrilled with the elegant treatment they were given, but also enjoyed that they were free to tour the museum at their leisure during our lovely party. The Art Deco atmosphere makes for amazing reception photos too!
The cars are beautiful and the building itself is a national treasure.
